Also on the night will be a special live performance from Brisbane's premier deep Funk and Jazz band Kerbside Collection. This will be a great night of music not to be missed.

Kerbside Collection - are an all instrumental jazz funk and rare groove ensemble from the inner suburbs of Brisbane/Queensland/Australia.
The band plays good time jazz, funk and traditional rare groove for listening or dancing.

‘A gritty rhythm section of old school drums and fender or upright bass, alongside funky hammond and rhodes, with some sweet George Benson-ish jazz guitar licks on top.’

The sound harks back to the 60’s and 70’s Californian West Coast jazz funk music of artists such as Wes Montgomery, George Benson, Chico Hamilton, Joe Sample and The Crusaders, whilst tipping its’ hat to today’s contemporaries keeping the ‘feel’ alive (Soulive, Bobby Hughes, James Taylor, Eddie Roberts & the New Mastersounds, Cookin on 3 Burners, Mattson 2, Frootful, Stance Brothers etc).

In May 2011 (directly after devastating floods ripped through their hometown) they pilled into a 1 room Melbourne studio to record their debut album. Eight songs were recorded/mixed/pre-mastered in four days, on vintage, analogue gear and onto warm tape. The songs were tracked the old classic way - all members in one room playing together, with instruments bleeding into other instrument mics and amps (and no ‘click’!) to capture a full and lively sound from the players - all lovingly recorded by Jake Mason (Cookin’ on 3 Burners). In November that same year they released a self funded, limited edition 7” featuring their gritty funk version of Dizzy Gillespie’s ‘Night in Tunisia’, after which they were picked up by German Indie groove label ‘Legere Recordings’ who in May 2013 released their debut album ‘Mind the Curb’ alongside P-Vine Records in Japan. The release was also accompanied by another limited edition 7”, and a fun film clip collaboration with Cyrus Sutton and Korduroy TV - all of which generated support from worldwide DJs, radio show hosts and tastemakers.
‘Mind the curb Remixed & Reworked’ was released in late 2014 featuring a variety of remixes, reworks and reinterpretations from worldwide and local Aussie (90%) remixers such as Ennio Styles (Stylin’/RRR radio Melb/AUS), Blunted Stylus (ex Resin Dogs), Chickashi Nishiwaki (Tree/JAP) and currently getting global support from the likes of Danny Krivit (US) and Gilles Peterson (UK), .

Their sophomore record 'Trash or Treasure' (released June 2015) contains hints of library music with lush tones from added instrumentation like vibraphone, sitar and brass that blend into their dusty 60’s inspired West Coast jazz funk sound. Recorded and engineered by Hopestreet Recording’s Roberto Sola (Bob Knob), the album contains 13 originals and one cover of the legendary 70’s CTI records Freddie Hubbard classic 'Red Clay' featuring an extended collection of players including members from The Cactus Channel, Bombay Royale, The Putbacks and Brazil to complete the spectrum of colours on the record.

“Smokin’ re-work of Freddie Hubbard’s Red Clay!” (Chris Gill - Northside Records/ Melb/AU)

“Some hefty funk out of Australia!” (Snowboy/Blues &Soul Mag- UK)

“Hard, fresh and carefree!...Cat Whip, is a real tribute to the Godfather, James Brown!” (Souful Corner – Italy)

“Tight instrumental jazz from from the Oz scene!” (Dusty Groove Records - Chicago/USA)

“...Fat rhythms, Hammond organ or Rhodes piano, crisp funk bass ....and a guitarist who does not want to be the center of power....for fans of GEORGE BENSON.....absolutely fresh!!!” (Ohrenschmauch Radio Show - Germany)
